Tambien la Lluvia is dedicated to Howard Zinn, who collaborated with Laverty in developing the story. Michael Moore says: "EVEN THE RAIN is a brilliant movie. At a time when the poor of the world seem to be rising up, I found myself deeply moved and completely enthralled by this film. I encourage everyone in search of a great movie to go see EVEN THE RAIN."

Spanish director Iciar Bollain has combined art, realistic acting and the gripping history of the "water war" in Bolivia, weaving together strands of three major events:

  • The attempt of the Bolivian upper class and military to allow a private US corporation to privatize the public drinking water supply of Cochabamba;
  • The resistance movement that has produced Evo Morales, the current and indigenous president of Bolivia.
  • A movie within the movie, a realistic, violent depiction of Columbus' invasion of America with the slaughter of thousands of native peoples;
  • And, most riveting, the struggle of an indigenous leader, Daniel, played by novice actor, Juan Carlos Aduviri.
